குறள் 1081:.

அணங்குகொல் ஆய்மயில் கொல்லோ கனங்குழை 
மாதர்கொல் மாலும் என் நெஞ்சு.

Tamil meaning

எனை வாட்டும் அழகோ! வண்ண மயிலோ! இந்த மங்கையைக் கண்டு மயங்குகிறதே நெஞ்சம். 

English meaning

Is this jewelled female a celestial, a choice peahen, or a human being ? My mind is perplexed.

குறள் 1082:.

நோக்கினாள் நோக்கெதிர் நோக்குதல் தாக்கணங்கு 
தானைக்கொண் டன்ன துடைத்து.

Tamil meaning

அவள் வீசிடும் விழிவேலுக்கு எதிராக நான் அவளை நோக்க, அக்கணமே அவள் என்னைத் திரும்ப நோக்கியது தாநொருத்தி மட்டும் தாக்குவது போதாதென்று, ஒரு தானையுடன் வந்து என்னைத் தாக்குவது போன்று இருந்தது. 

English meaning

This female beauty returning my looks is like a celestial maiden coming with an army to contend against me. 

குறள் 1083:.

பண்டறியேன் கூற்றென் பதனை இனியறிந்தேன் 
பெண்டகையால் பேரமர்க் கட்டு.

Tamil meaning

கூற்றுவன் எனப்படும் பொல்லாத எமனை, எனக்கு முன்பெல்லாம் தெரியாது, இப்போது தெரிந்து கொண்டேன். அந்த எமன் என்பவன் பெண்ணுருவத்தில் வந்து போர் தொடுக்கக்கூடிய விழியம்புகளை உடையவன் என்ற உண்மையை.

English meaning

I never knew before what is called Yama; I see it now; it is the eyes that carry on a great fight with (the help of) female qualities.

குறள் 1084:.

கண்டார் உயிருண்ணும் தோற்றத்தால் பெண்டகைப் 
பேதைக்கு அமர்த்தன கண்.

Tamil meaning

பெண்மையின் வார்ப்படமாகத் திகழுகின்ற இந்தப் பேதையின் கண்கள் மட்டும் உயிரைப் பறிப்பதுபோல் தோன்றுகின்றனவே! ஏனிந்த மாறுபாடு? 

English meaning

These eyes that seem to kill those who look at them are as it were in hostilities with this feminine simplicity. 

குறள் 1085:.

கூற்றமோ கண்ணோ பிணையோ மடவரல் 
நோக்கமிம் மூன்றும் உடைத்து.

Tamil meaning

உயிர்பறிக்கும் கூற்றமோ? உறவாடும் விழியோ? மருட்சிகொள்ளும் பெண்மானோ? இளம் பெண்ணின் பார்வை இந்த மூன்று கேள்விகளையும் எழுப்புகிறதே.

English meaning

Is it Yama, (a pair of) eyes or a hind ?- Are not all these three in the looks of this maid ?

குறள் 1086:.

கொடும்புருவம் கோடா மறைப்பின் நடுங்கஞர் 
செய்யல மன்இவள் கண்.

Tamil meaning

புருவங்கள் வளைந்து கோணாமல் நேராக இருந்து மறைக்குமானால், இவள் கண்கள், நான் நடுங்கும்படியான துன்பத்தைச் செய்யமாட்டா. 

English meaning

Her eyes will cause (me) no trembling sorrow, if they are properly hidden by her cruel arched eye-brows. 

குறள் 1087:.

கடாஅக் களிற்றின்மேற் கட்படாம் மாதர் 
படாஅ முலைமேல் துகில்.

மதங்கொண்ட யானையின் மத்தகத்தின் மேலிட்ட முகபடாம் கண்டேன், அது மங்கையொருத்தியின் சாயாத கொங்கை மேல் அசைந்தாடும் ஆடைபோல் இருந்தது.

English meaning

The cloth that covers the firm bosom of this maiden is (like) that which covers the eyes of a rutting elephant. 

குறள் 1088:.

ஒண்ணுதற் கோஒ உடைந்ததே ஞாட்பினுள் 
நண்ணாரும் உட்குமென் பீடு.

களத்தில் பகைவரைக் கலங்கவைக்கும் என் வலிமை இதோ இந்தக் காதலியின் ஒளி பொருந்திய நெற்றிக்கு வளைந்து கொடுத்துவிட்டதே! 

English meaning

On her bright brow alone is destroyed even that power of mine that used to terrify the most fearless foes in the battlefield. 

குறள் 1089:.

பிணையேர் மடநோக்கும் நாணும் உடையாட்கு 
அணியெவனோ ஏதில தந்து.

Tamil meaning

பெண்மானைப் போன்ற இளமை துள்ளும் பார்வையையும், நாணத்தையும் இயற்கையாகவே அணிகலன்களாகக் கொண்ட இப்பேரழகிக்குச் செயற்கையான அணிகலன்கள் எதற்காக? 

English meaning

Of what use are other jewels to her who is adorned with modesty, and the meek looks of a hind? 

குறள் 1090:.

உண்டார்கண் அல்லது அடுநறாக் காமம்போல் 
கண்டார் மகிழ்செய்தல் இன்று.

Tamil meaning

மதுவை உண்டால்தான் மயக்கம் வரும், ஆனால்  கண்டாலே மயக்கம் தருவது காதல்தான்.
